Joy in Lisbon and Zagreb

What an evening of football!

After lacklustre starts to their World Cup Qualifying campaigns, England won 4-1 against Croatia and got a bit of revenge for their last match, Euro Qualifier loss at Wembley whilst Denmark won 3-2 versus Portugal.

Portugal went ahead just before the break through Nani, but one of the Portuguese in the build-up play was clearly off-side. (They were nearly at full strength - Ronaldo is out with an injury he picked up in the Summer.)

The match pulsated but a sinking feeling sat in on the 80th minute. Denmark were going away empty handed. Then...

Arsenal's Nicklas Bendtner equalised in the 84th. Just as everyone was sitting down in relief, whoops! Penalty to Portugal that Deco put away. That sinking feeling was replaced by a gutted feeling.

Then in the 90th Poulsen equalised from a corner. That joy turned into jubilation when Jensen's shot deflected off a couple of defenders deep in injury time.

Incredible stuff! The last time Denmark upset the odds this way was when they won 3-2 in Rome versus Italy.

The next matches are Malta, Malta and Albania. That's good. The acid test will be the arch-foe Sweden.
